R Parthiepan says it was hard to find producers for his experimental film Koditta Idangalai Nirappuga. The film, scheduled to release in 2017, stars Shanthnu Bhagyaraj and Parvathy Nair and is currently in post-production.
Speaking to Silverscreen, Parthiepan said that he had faced many difficulties from producers while making the film, “I’d mistakenly believed that the success of Kathai Thiraikkathai Vasanam will bring me a lot of producers. In fact, the opposite was true. There were no producers. The ones who did approach me, fooled me with fraudulent cheques.”
Even now, Parthiepan says he expects it to be an uphill task to find distributors, “I like to work with people who believe in the vision of the director. If they don’t, then the project will suffer. That’s the problem I faced when I made Kudaikkul Mazhai. The people involved with the film did not believe in it, did not understand the concept and so failed to promote it effectively.”
Consequently, Parthiepan says he is prepared to wait till he finds the right people to distribute the film. “I wanted to make a film worthy of Shanthnu’s talent. This is in part, my ‘Thank you’ to his father and my guru, director Bhagyaraj, and in part, to showcase Shanthnu’s talent. I’m eager for people to discover this actor’s new side. But to do this, the film needs a stage that is worthy of it.”
