Raghava Lawrence bought plot of land measuring 1.25 grounds in Meenjur, near Chennai to be handed over to transgender persons for houses to be built on the ground. He announced this during the recent audio launch of Kanchana 3, the fourth part of the Muni series.
A source close to the film said that the ground was bought for trans persons without homes, and people from the trans community have appealed to the public to donate for the cost of the building. “Lawrence has handed over the ground. A house needs to be built now, and a public appeal has been made for this. They are planning a three-storey building that can house close to 100 people per floor,” said the source.
The source added that Ragahva Lawrence is currently busy as the film is in the process of acquiring a censor certificate. The actor-director had earlier said that he wanted a small audio launch event to save money and buy the ground in Meenjur.
The second part in Muni installement, Kanchana, featured Sarathkumar as the ghost of a trans-woman who possessed Lawrence’s lead character to take revenge from a man who murdered her family. In an interview with Silverscreen, Lawrence said, “Like Kanchana, the fourth installment will also address a social issue.” He also said that the film was first planned with a female lead.
The official trailer of the film released recently, and features Lawrence as an older man who seems to be possessed by a ghost again to avenge villains. During the audio launch event which aired on Sun TV last Sunday, Lawrence said, “When I made the first part, I never thought there would be fourth part. The film has received that much support. And the reason for its success is also the film’s team which includes Kovai Sarala, Sreeman and Devadarshini.”
The three actors were featured in the previous Kanchana films too. Lawrence said he was glad that Soori and Oviya came on board for Kanchana 3. Vedhika also plays an important part in the film. Sathyaraj, Kabir Duhan Singh, Manobala, Yogi Babu, Nikki Tamboli are part of the cast.
Five musicians have worked to compose for the fourth installment. Lawrence said he was thankful to Madhan Karky for bringing them on board.
The film is expected to release on April 19.
