SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali, which released on July 10 and broke a number of box-office records, has now been running successfully for 50 days. However, Rajamouli seemed unimpressed with record numbers, and said on his Twitter handle @ssrajamouli that after a ‘memorable victory’, he had no use for ‘false records’. He added that he had no interest in blocking theatres just to inflate the ‘number of days’ running, and would prefer to give ground to new movies. The longest running film in Indian cinema is the 1995 Hindi film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which ran for 20 years at the Maratha Mandir theatre in Mumbai until its final screening earlier this year.
Baahubali stars Prabhas, Rana Daggibati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah, Nasser, Sathyaraj and Ramya Krishnan, and is a revenge story between two-brothers. The second part of the movie is expected to resume shooting on September 15 and release in 2016. Meanwhile, fans continue to enjoy variations of the question “Why Kattappa Killed Baahubali?”.
