Despite Rajinikanth announcing his political venture on December 31, 2017, the actor is yet to take the plunge by contesting in elections. The actor did not participate in the 2019 Parliamentary elections and claimed that he was focussing on the 2021 Assembly elections. However, with the polls just a few months away, the actor is yet to take any definitive steps.

Reportedly, Rajinikanth will hold a meeting soon and district secretaries of Rajini Makkal Mandram are in talks to see if the meeting can be held around Diwali.
