Rajinikanth may pay a dual role in his upcoming film directed by AR Murugadoss, the shoot for which is currently happening. The yet to be titled film is the actor’s 166th movie.
Since the film began, many speculations have been doing the rounds. And one such report says that the actor has a double role in the film. However, no confirmation regarding this has come.
Rajinikanth last played a dual role in 2.0 directed by Shankar. Over the years, Superstar has played multiple such roles in films like Arunachalam (1997), Muthu (1995), Athisaya Piravi (1989), and Rajathi Raja (1989).
Meanwhile, director AR Murugadoss recently denied speculations that the title of the film was Naarkali. The makers are in talks with Nayanthara to play the female lead. It was reported that Murugadoss earlier approached Keerthy Suresh for the film. If the rumors about Rajinikanth’s double role are true, then there might be a possibility for fans to see two female leads in the film.

Reports also emerged towards the end of last year that Sun Pictures was planning to produce a film by Murugadoss with Rajinikanth in the lead. However, they pulled out because the director’s previous release Sarkar, bankrolled by them, was mired in controversy before release. Subsequently, Lyca Productions took over.
The cinematography for the film will be by Santosh Shivan, who is working with the actor after a gap of 27 years. The duo previously worked together on Mani Ratnam’s Thalapathy. Music will be composed by Anirudh Ravichander, and other details are yet to be announced. The director had earlier hinted in an interview that his upcoming film might be a fantasy venture. This is also expected to be the actor’s last film before he enters politics.
