Superstar Rajinikanth was the chief guest at the birth anniversary celebrations of late Tamil Nadu chief minister MG Ramachandran, which was held this afternoon. The actor, commenting on the political scene in Tamil Nadu earlier in the day, said that the political parties today uphold MGR’s principles only to a certain extent. Answering a reporter about his readiness to face the election if it were to happen in six months, the superstar said “நிச்சயமாக [For sure].” When asked if he would be willing to form an alliance with Kamal Haasan, Rajini had a simple “காலம் பதில் சொல்லும் [Time will tell].”

The city saw Rajinikanth make an appearance for the first time after his recent announcement about entering politics. A key part of the celebrations was the launch of MGR’s dream project Kizhakku Africavil Raju, which is being made into a motion capture film by Prabhu Deva Studio in association with Vels International Films. Kamal Haasan was also present at the event.
The film, which was announced by MGR after launching the AIADMK in 1972, was shelved due to his political commitments.
