Annaatthe, the Rajinikanth-starrer that was released on Thursday for Diwali, has collected Rs 82 crore (net), across India, with its main business driven by Tamil Nadu, according to a report by Box Office India, on Monday.
Directed by Siva and produced by Sun Pictures, Annaatthe opened to full occupancy in theatres on Thursday. Touted as a family action drama, the film features Rajinikanth and Keerthy Suresh as brother and sister, with Nayanthara paired opposite the former. It also features actors Prakash Raj, Soori, Meena, and Kushboo, among others.
Earlier in the day, BOI had reported that the film collected Rs 53.5 crore (net) in Tamil Nadu, becoming the first Tamil film to cross the 50-crore mark at the box office in the first three days of its release.
However, while the report added that Annaatthe did not perform well outside Tamil Nadu, the film has managed to perform well abroad, with it collecting about $4-5 million. In its home state (TN), Rajinikanth’s film collected Rs 66 crore upon its four-day release.
Annaatthe was one of two Tamil films – the other being Enemy – to release in theatres for Diwali.
Though it opened to mixed reviews, various Tamil Nadu theatre owners earlier told Silverscreen India that the film was an undisputed crowd puller, with the family audience thronging theatres, both in rural and urban areas.
However, Box Office India notes that the film, also released as Peddanna in Telugu, did not fare well in other regions and only collected Rs 13-13.5 crore in total outside Tamil Nadu. But this, with the TN collections, puts the film’s three-day nationwide net box-office earnings at around Rs 67 crore.

Meanwhile, the online ticket booking platform BookMyShow on Saturday tweeted that the film had sold over one-million tickets as on Friday, becoming the first movie to hit that mark after “the second Unlock in 2021.”
While a few reports state that the film has already crossed the Rs 100-crore mark worldwide, official word on the same is awaited from the makers. Tirupur Subramaniam, President of Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners’ Association, told Silverscreen India, “Only Sun Pictures can confirm that since only they know about the exact figure that the film has made. However, with that being said, the film has definitely seen a very good collection in the last four days.”
