Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in a biopic, playing the role of his grandfather, Raj Kapoor. Produced by the family-owned production company, RK films, this has been the Kapoors’ most cherished project, according to a ToI report.
The production company, RK films, has remained inactive over the past few years. Brothers, Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor, in an attempt to revive the company, plan to launch the film under their banner.
Raj Kapoor is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated actors of Bollywood. With three National Awards, 11 Filmfare trophies, Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Honours, he was regarded as one of the greatest Indian filmmakers. Raj Kapoor formed the second-generation of the now prominent Bollywood family. But he had rather humble beginnings. Starting his career as a clap-boy for director Kidar Sharma, he went on to become the youngest director of Bollywood at age 24. His first film was Aag. Later, he started his production company, RK films, in 1948. Many successful movies like Barsaat, Awaara, Boot Polish, and Jagte Raho were produced under his banner.
Calling himself Raj Kapoor’s favourite grandson, Ranbir Kapoor has been very vocal about his fondness for his grandfather. Interestingly, Raj Kapoor’s original name was Ranbir Raj Kapoor – the name shared by his grandson. Ranbir had expressed his desire to make a short film on his grandfather at the inauguration of a short film festival in 2014. It must be a dream-come-true moment for the actor to take on the role of Raj Kapoor in the movie.
Ranbir Kapoor will be seen next in Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil alongside lead actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma. Another movie in the pipeline since almost 3 years, is Jagga Jasoos with actress Katrina Kaif.
