Actor Ranjith is excited about making his acting debut with 8 Thottakkal. The eleventh-grade student is not new to the industry, however. His younger brother, Ramesh, attained fame – and a National Award – last year with a stellar turn as Periya Kakka Muttai in Kakka Muttai.
Speaking to Silverscreen, Ranjith said, “A year ago, we were all rooting for Ramesh and his career. Now they’re all rooting for me. It’s nice to be here.”
Ranjith plays a pickpocket in the movie. “I have seen some people in the area who became pick-pockets. I guess I’ll be watching them closely now onwards to make sure I get the role right,” Ranjith adds.
The role was originally offered to Ramesh, he explains, “For some reason, he couldn’t do it. So Ganesh sir approached me instead. I am very excited to see myself onscreen. It will mean such a great deal for me.”
Ranjith wants to show the film to actor Dhanush, who co-produced his brother’s film. “I love his films. I want to be able to show the film to him when it releases. That would be awesome.”
The first look poster of 8 Thottakkal was released recently. A cop-thriller, the movie is directed by debutant director Sri Ganesh. The shooting of the film began on 17 August. 8 Thottakkal is said to be woven around eight characters who are linked by a crime scene.
The film has actress Aparna Balamurali of Maheshinte Prathikaaram fame and debutant actor Vetri in the lead roles. The film also has model-turned-actress Meera Mitun in an important role.
