A former associate of director Sathyasiva, Nikesh is making his directorial debut with Rebel, which is produced by KE Gnanavelraja and CV Kumar under the Studio Green and Thirukumaran Entertainment banners respectively.

Nikesh said, “Like the title, Rebel is the story of a rebellion, one carried out by some students from Munnar in the 1980s. There will be a patriotic and political ring to the film. The story was written with GV Prakash in mind. His character in the film is someone who will stand up for the rights and identity of Tamil speakers.”

Nikesh, who is also from Munnar, said that he wrote the story for Rebel about three years back. “This is a story based on things that I have seen and heard around me. As a Munnar local, I have used the information that I got from there,” he said.

Nikesh has also written the screenplay and dialogues of the film. “Just like KGF, which goes back and forth and shows back stories of its characters, Rebel will also have a non-linear screenplay and will feature stories of the people in Munnar,” he added.

The film’s inaugural ceremony was held in Chennai in December 2021 “We are expecting to go on floors sometime soon and it will be shot in Munnar. We are scouting for other locations too,” he added. The casting and pre-production work are currently underway.

Besides starring in the film, GV Prakash will also be composing music for Rebel. The film will have four songs. Others in the technical crew include Arun Krishnan as the cinematographer and Leo John Paul as the editor.
