Reese Witherspoon is in talks with MGM Studios to reprise her role as Elle Woods in the third instalment of the Legally Blonde franchise.

According to The Guardian, the film is backed by MGM with writers Karen McCullah and Kirsten Smith onboard to pen the script. At present, the director and the rest of the cast and crew have not been finalised yet.
Witherspoon played aspiring lawyer Elle Woods in the film. In the movie, Woods’ dreams of marrying her law student boyfriend are dashed when he sets her aside for the more ‘brainy’ Selma Blair. Woods then sets out to prove her ex-boyfriend wrong, and in the process becomes passionate about justice.
Legally Blonde worked with issues such as female empowerment and discrimination within the standard romantic comedy format. It went on to become a box office success, raking in $141 million.
