When Silverscreen got in touch with Balaji Mohan, the director did not confirm any release date. “The date has not been finalised as yet as we have to go through the producers council and dates will be allotted depending on the other films. We will make an official announcement soon,” he said.

The film’s shoot was wrapped up in August. Prabhu Deva has choreographed a song for the film. The music has been composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The music composer is collaborating with Dhanush after almost a decade, the last two films being Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram (2007) and Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008).

While Kajal Aggarwal was part of the original film that released three years ago, Sai Pallavi is the female lead in Maari 2. She will reportedly play the role of an auto driver. The film also stars Tovino Thomas, who plays the antagonist, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Vidya Pradeep, Robo Shankar and Kalloori Vinoth in supporting roles.

In the award-winning film Maari (2015), Dhanush played a fierce, morally ambiguous don of North Madras. Maari is a ruffian who loves talking down to people and whose pastime is rearing and racing pigeons. In Maari 2, Dhanush reprises his role of the eccentric local gangster. The film is produced by the actor’s production house Wunderbar Films.

Apart from this, the actor is awaiting the release of his other films, including his first-ever international project The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir, Vetrimaaran’s ambitious trilogy Vada Chennai, Gautham Menon’s romantic drama Enai Noki Paayum Thota. He recently announced his next directorial venture. Produced by Sri Thenandal Films, the yet-to-be-titled movie features an ensemble cast, including Nagarjuna, Sarath Kumar, SJ Suriya and Aditi Rao Hydari, besides Dhanush himself. The movie will be shot as a bilingual.
