As a part of promotions for her upcoming film Shakeela, Richa Chadha, who plays the titular character, will soon release a calendar with her in 12 different looks inspired by 90s pulp fiction films. The calendar is said to have ‘tongue-in-cheek’ posters.
Richa Chadha explained in a statement, “Even though our film is currently in post-production, we wanted to do something special ahead of the film’s release.”
The calendar comes with a statutory warning saying these posters ought to be taken with a pinch of salt. “The team thought we should pay this homage to her (Shakeela) and the films that she has been a part of. It is quirky and tongue in cheek, so we are aware many people may not understand it.”
“But there’s an underbelly to the cinema and it’s often crazy and colourful. I hope people find the humour we did in this calendar and enjoy the world of these 1990s’ pulp films,” said the actor, best known for her film Fukrey.
Shakeela is a Malayalam film actor who became popular during the late ’90s and early 2000s for her stint in low budget movies that were adult-rated. She has acted in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films as well. She has appeared in mainstream movies Azhagiya Tamizh Magan, Dhool and Mohanlal’s Chhota Mumbai.
An eponymous biopic on the actress was announced in early 2018. The first look of the film was released in November with the tagline ‘Not A Porn Star.’ Apart from Richa Chadha, the movie features Pankaj Tripathi and the Malayalam actor Rajeev Pillai.
