The trailer of Soundarya Rajinikanth’s directorial, Velaiyilla Pattathari 2, was released on Sunday evening, and it came with all sorts of surprise. Right from the music to Kajol mouthing Tamil dialogues with ease, the two-minute trailer also featured Pellichoopulu actress, Ritu Varma, in what looks like her Tamil debut.
A cameo role, Ritu Varma’s character asks Dhanush’s Raghuvaran about his job-hunt. This development was kept under wraps until the trailer was released.

Before VIP 2, Ritu signed on to make her Tamil debut in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s spy thriller Dhruva Natchathiram. Incidentally, it was her performance in last year’s Telugu hit Pellichoopulu that got her on board in Menon’s project. Ritu, who rose to fame because of her performance in the short film Anukokunda, has since acted in several Telugu films including Yevade Subramanyam (2015). The actress has another Tamil film in the pipeline – China – directed by AR Murugadoss’s assistant Harshavardhana. The shooting has been on hold for a while.
VIP 2 has Bollywood actress Kajol making her comeback in Tamil cinema after 20 years. She plays villainous business woman Vasundhara in the film. The film also stars Amala Paul as Dhanush’s wife, Samuthirakani, Hrishikesh, Vivek, Balaji Mohan, a photo of Saranya Ponvannan. The film will release on July 28, on Dhanush’s birthday.
