The audio of Ru was launched by VG Santhosham of VGP Group, and producer Thenappan yesterday. Directed by debutant Sadasivam, Ru features Irfan and Rakshitha in the lead, with Perarasu playing an integral role.
Talking at the event, director Perarasu said, “For the first time, I have accepted salary for acting in Ru. I have acted in a couple of films, but I never accepted remuneration.” He added that he plays himself in Ru. “I might have taken up acting, but that doesn’t mean I would give up direction. I will soon make my next film.”
Perarasu revealed that Ru – a film on rape – is being made at the right time. “The climax shook me. I am sure it would enlighten the audience.”

Director Sadasivam was emotional at the event. When he was called to speak the first time, he couldn’t gather himself to address the audience. In a while, he went to the microphone again and explained that “death penalty is not the ultimate punishment for rapists. There is something worse than that and that’s what Ru explores.” Ru means five in Tamil, he said, and the film is titled that way, as it follows five men with stark negative shades.
The climax has been filmed in a bubble gum factory, and Ifran has gained over 15 kilos to change his appearance for the last few scenes. Sadasivam said he roamed around several slum areas in Chennai to find the five men, who play villains in Ru.
Produced by Veena Anand, Ru has TV personalities Aadhavan and Meera Krishnan forming the supporting cast.
