April Fool’s Day is here and someone just had to do something about it. A Deccan Chronicle report about actors Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya tying the knot on New York’s Brooklyn Bridge had its readers fooled. The story was a joking reference to a famous scene from the duo’s first film Ye Maaya Chesave.
A spokesperson for the couple said that that not everyone got the joke. “We’ve been getting calls from reputed media agencies trying to verify this news. Sam and Chay are planning their dream wedding and its quite some time away. When it does happen, we’ll be sure to keep you all informed,” he said.
The misunderstanding happened even though the report quoted a ‘close source’ who talks at length about the impromptu wedding, before saying, “Initially it was quite difficult, but they managed to do so… just as DC managed to pull the leg of their readers on April Fool’s Day with this story.”
Actress Samantha took to Twitter to laugh off the story and said:
???what a story !! I think I should be taking notes lol https://t.co/2HYpG7bHXH

Meanwhile, a section of the media completely missed the point of the article and it’s timing, and took it quite seriously.
Samantha and Naga Chaithanya were engaged on January 29 of this year.
