Actor Samuthirakani will reportedly be a part of the Pa Ranjith–Rajinikanth project. According to a Deccan Chronicle report, the Appa actor and filmmaker has been approached for a crucial role in the film, and he has already allotted dates for the schedule.
“Samuthirakani has given his dates for the project and would be appearing in an important role. At this point of time, we cannot shell out more information on the character he is playing. Audiences will be surprised seeing the camaraderie of the two actors,” a source tells Deccan Chronicle.
The film will go on floors on 28 May. Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi has been finalised as the female lead. Sources close to the project tell Silverscreen that her performances in Dedh Ishqiya and the recent Jolly LLB 2 impressed the team.
Directed by Pa Ranjith, the film is Rajini’s 161st as actor and is reportedly set in Mumbai. Recently, the makers were forced to quash rumours that the film was based on Mumbai don Haji Mastan’s life. Mastan’s adopted son Sundar Shekhar Mishra even sent Rajinikanth a notice asking for a clarification.
Santhosh Narayanan has composed the film’s music, while Dhanush is producing the film through Wunderbar Studios. The film is slated to release in 2018.
Samuthirakani, meanwhile, is gearing up for the release of his directorial Thondan this Friday after it was postponed by almost three weeks.
