We had earlier reported that the iconic Telugu classic, Sankarabharanam, is being dubbed in Tamil. And today, producer Rathnam announced that the dubbed version might release on October 2.
Speaking at the audio launch, director Viswanath said, “I can never say that I directed this film. I always believe that Sankarabharanam was directed by God. And that kind of a phenomenon will not happen again. So I didn’t think remaking the film was a good idea. I’m glad that the original is being re-released.”
The film features 12 songs, and all of them have been reprised by singers who had lent their voices for the original. SP Balasubrahmanyam, who has rendered most of the songs, was also present at the audio launch. “The whole album was challenging since I am not a trained classical singer. KV Mahadevan composed the songs based on my capacity. And for that, I’m forever grateful to Vishwanath and the composer,” said SPB.
Sankarabharanam hit theatres in 1978. It was well-received in Tamil Nadu, and was a blockbuster in Andhra Pradesh. JV Somayajulu donned the lead role while SP Balasubrahmanyam, Vani Jayaram, KV Mahadevan (composer) and K Viswanath (director) bagged National Awards.
Balu Mahendra was in charge of cinematography.
