Cinematographer Santosh Sivan is set to work with Rajinikanth after a gap of 27 years. The duo previously worked together on Mani Ratnam’s Thalapathy.
Santosh Sivan announced the news on social media. Since the only active project involving the Superstar is the Murugadoss film, one can assume that the cinematographer was referring to the same project. Moreover, he has collaborated with director Murugadoss in the past too.

Santosh Sivan and Rajinikanth’s last film together was Thalapathy. The film, considered to be a masterpiece, had Rajinikanth in a role that bore a resemblance to Karna from Mahabharata. It is still remembered for its visuals, with multiple shots where Superstar was shot with the sun (Karna’s father) in the background.
Santosh Sivan’s latest film was the Mani Ratnam directorial Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. He is currently directing Jack N Jill in Malayalam, with Manju Warrier and Kalidas Jayaram.
The new film also marks Santosh Sivan’s third collaboration with Murugadoss after Thuppakki and Spyder.
Reports emerged towards the end of last year that Sun Pictures was planning to produce the Murugaodss-Rajinikanth film. However, they pulled out because the director’s previous release Sarkar, bankrolled by them, was mired in a controversy before the release. Subsequently, Lyca Productions took over.
It was also said that the news will be officially confirmed after the promotions of Lyca Production’s films 2.0 and Petta.

A spokesperson for Rajinikanth told Silverscreen, “Nothing has been confirmed as of now. Sir has just listened to the script from AR Murugadoss and the rest of the things are under discussion and not yet finalised. We have a lot of time and our main focus is on 2.0 and Petta.”
“Sometime in January, once we finalise the team, we will begin work and an official announcement will be made,” he added. There were rumours about Keerthy Suresh being a part of the project, and that the film was titled Naarkkaali but the director denied the rumour,
While other details are yet to be announced, the director hinted in an interview that his upcoming film may be a fantasy venture. It is also expected to be actor Vijay’s last film before he enters politics.
