Paramporul, the upcoming Tamil film led by actor-politician Sarath Kumar and actor Amithash Pradhan, is a crime drama that revolves around idol smuggling, says its director C Aravind Raj.
The first-look motion poster of the film was unveiled via social media on Monday.
The upcoming film, backed by Manoj and Girish, marks the directorial debut of Aravind Raj, who has previously worked as an associate director under filmmaker Ram.
Speaking to Silverscreen India about the film, he says, “It is a crime drama set in contemporary times and it revolves around idol smuggling. The whole story can be described as a tug of war between the characters played by Amithash and Sarath Kumar sir. Paramporul is a term that denotes a divine quality. It also means ‘aadhi muthal‘ or ‘from the very beginning’.”
Aravind Raj has also written the film. On how he chose this subject, he says, “I used to read the works of scholar Miley Venkatesan, who has done research on temples and sculptures. That gave me the idea to explore these themes in cinema.”
However, he clarifies that the film is neither a documentary nor an adaptation, but rather a work of fiction in the form of a feature-length commercial film. “I incorporated the element of drama and completed the final script after several revisions.”
Aside from Sarath Kumar and Amithash Pradhan, Paramporul also features Kashmira Pardeshi, director Balaji Sakthivel, and Vincent Asokan.
Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music director and Aravind Raj tells us he has composed four songs for the film.

The film went on floors in December 2021 and the shooting is currently in the final stages. With cinematographer S Pandikumar at the helm, Paramporul is being shot completely in Chennai. Nagooran is handling the editing, while the art direction is by Kumar Gangappan.
The makers are planning for a theatrical release sometime in mid-2022, although an official announcement is yet to be made.
Meanwhile, Sarath Kumar, who recently appeared in the Tamil web series Irai, is also working on another crime film, titled The Smile Man, which went on floors recently. Amitash, on the other hand, was last seen in Thalli Pogathey.
