Sarkar Teaser: Where Revolution Is Imminent

For Sarkar, Vijay assumes the persona of a corporate criminal. AR Murugadoss offers glimpses of Vijay’s life abroad, liberally sprinkled with scenes of disco lights, foreign women and luxurious limos. He is the sort of man who makes news when he comes back home (and not the kind who makes news when he escapes!).

When media wonder which company he is interested in acquiring, Vijay’s Sundar replies, “I am not here to buy. I am here to vote.”

So, a corporate leader with social responsibility comes back to India to vote in the elections. Does he take on the electoral system? Or is it Aadhaar he is after?

One doesn’t need to wonder too much for AR Murugadoss tells us what Sundar is going to concentrate on, the next few days of his life. The most famous man in South India wants to vote but cannot. Since someone else has cast it in his name.

This spurs the hero on a journey towards eradicating such things from the society. He asks people to find their leaders. We sense that a sort of revolution is imminent. Sundar confirms this with his punchline about Sarkar.

But not everything about this film is about Sundar.

There are glimpses of Keerthy Suresh and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar as well. But they are just that. Glimpses. These scenes show us what Keerthy and Varalaxmi will be wearing throughout the film. Kalpadruma and Fab India are firm favourites of the former. While the latter seems to have raided the wardrobe of Priyanka Gandhi.

One interesting thing about the teaser is having Varalaxmi’s character introduce Sundar to the world. Her voice is the first thing we hear. Yes, she does extol Sundar’s values (in a roundabout way) but it’s a step up nonetheless.

Apart from Vijay, it is music director AR Rahman who is present from start to finish in the one and a half minute teaser. But then…the less said about this the better.
