Speaking to Silverscreen India, the film’s publicity manager Guna said, “The complete shooting of the film has taken place in Chennai and was completed yesterday (Tuesday). We are planning to release the film in theatres in January or February, next year.”
The story revolves around the boxing culture in north Chennai during the 1970-80s, he said and added that the film will show a different slice of Chennai and its people during the time it is set in.
“Actor Pasupathy has acted in a prominent role,” added Guna.
A first look poster of the film, featuring Arya as a boxer, was unveiled by the makers on social media on Wednesday.
The film marks the director’s first collaboration with Arya. Sharing the film’s poster on Twitter, Ranjith wrote: “Opportunities are made not available very often. This is our game and the opponent should feel the heat.”

Billed to be a sports drama, the film will also feature Dushara Vijayan, who made her debut in Tamil film Bodhai Yeri Budhi Maari in 2019 opposite Arya. Sarpatta Parambarai will be produced by Shanmugam Dhakshanraj. While the film’s music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan and lyrics penned by Kabilan, Murali G is in charge of cinematography. Selva RK is in charge of editing. The stunt coordinator is Anbariv.
Earlier, Ranjith had directed the Tamil political drama Madras (2014) with Karthi in the lead, that explored north Chennai and its communities.
