Kathir, who won the heart of audience with his impressive performance in Mari Selvaraj’s Pariyerum Perumal, is all set for a commercial role in his upcoming cop thriller Sathru directed by debutant Naveen Nanjundan. The film stars Srushti Dange as the female lead.
The one minute and fifteen second teaser of the film which was unveiled today depicts a plan for a kidnapping. The teaser introduces Kathir, while a voice over explains the plan. Unlike other films centered on police officers, there are no punches, no fights, no “mass” entry. Kathir walks in quite normally. This gives an idea of what kind of cop he would be playing. He also explains the difference between a real cop and reel cop: “Oru policekaran mela kai vekkradhu ellam cinema la mattum dhaa nadakum (Only in cinema can one touch a cop).”
Talking about the film, actor Kathir told Silverscreen, “The lead character in Sathru is a cop, but a cop who is different, not like the ones in films like Singam 3. This film depicts many incidents that have parallels in real life, but this film is not based on any specific incident. It is inspired by various other incidents.”

Talking about choosing the role, he says, “I always wanted to do roles which will excite me as well as audience and that is how I ended up doing Pariyerum Perumal. The same is why I wanted to do Sathru. I’m just trying out different roles and experimenting on how people react to it and how they accept me as a character. This is the first full length commercial film I’m doing as far as I think. My role in Sigai is also an experimental one.”
Produced by Milestone Movies, the film also has Suja Varunee, Neelima, Ponvannan, Marimuthu and others in pivotal roles, while Laguparan of Raatinam fame will be playing antagonist. The film may release in February. The music for the film is composed by Amrish, with lyrics by Kabilan, Karky and Sorko.
Kathir will also be seen in a Zee 5 original Sigai, directed by Jagadeesan Subu which is a crime thriller.
