“The shooting of this film will commence in a couple of months. This will be a biopic of a leader, who is quite popular in south Tamil Nadu. Seenu has finished his script work and is waiting for Vijay Sethupathi’s dates as the actor has a slew of films in his kitty, which he had committed to earlier,” a source has told ToI

The film, produced by Yuvan Shankar Raja under his YSR, is yet to finalise a female lead. The music, however, will see father-son Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan teaming up. According to The News Minute, the director had originally approached Ilaiyaraaja with the project. While they were discussing the script, it was Seenu who suggested that they also bring Yuvan on board.

Seenu and Vijay’s Maamanithan marks their fourth project together, the first three being Thenmerku Paruvakaatru (2010) for which they won the National Award for Best Film, Dharma Durai (2016), and the yet-to-be released Idam Porul Yaeval.

Vijay, meanwhile, appears to be on a signing spree. One of his recent projects is said to be Balaji Tharaneetharan’s Seethakathi in which he plays a drama artiste. He also recently completed shooting for Karuppan, a rural entertainer directed by R Paneerselvam, starring Lakshmi Menon, Bobby Simhaa, and Kishore.

Reports suggest that he is also likely to star in director Cheran’s comeback film.

Vijay also has Vikram Vedha with Madhavan. Written and directed by Pushkar and Gayathri, the cast includes Shraddha Srinath, Kathir, John Vijay and Varalakshmi Sarathkumar. He is also shooting for Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s Aneethi Kathaigal. His film with Trisha – 96 – will go on floors soon.
