The trailer of Seethakaathi, a much awaited film directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan and produced by Passion Studios, was unveiled on Wednesday. The film will hit screens on December 20.
It is said that 75 and more celebrities came together to launch the trailer. Seethakaathi, a drama film starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, marks the actor’s 25th film. Celebrities like Anurag Kashyap, Seenu Ramasamy, Arjun Sarja, Arun Vijay, Arya, Karthik Subbaraj, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Vignesh Shivan, Remya Nambeesan, Siddharth, Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi, Yogi Babu, Madhavan and many others were at the event.
The three minute and nine second trailer of the film is about the core character Ayya Aadhimoolam (Vijay Sethupathi), who is a theater artiste turned cinema actor. It is seen that despite his age, he has the greatest demand and is celebrated by an audience of all age groups. As the trailer proceeds, complaints are made against Ayya for not going to shoots properly. But we also see him avoiding shoots for some serious reason, evident through the visuals and its melancholy.
Ayya, however, seems stubborn and unmoved even after one of the producers sues him in court, and he recalls memories of getting applauded during his theater performance. Then finally at the end of the trailer he speaks in a low tone, and says, “Aadi Oyndhirukkum kizhavan naan, naane sarithiramaga maari vitten (I’m a tired, old man, and I’ve become a history).”
Earlier, it was speculated that the film was based on the Tamil scholar, saint and philanthropist Seethakaathi who lived in the 1650s. But the director clarified that the tale revolves around theater artists and is in no way related to the poet.
