Senapathy, the Telugu film starring veteran actor Rajendra Prasad in the lead role, is a crime drama that is loosely inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s 1949 Japanese film Stray Dog, says Pavan Sadineni, director of the upcoming film.
Senapathy is set to premiere on the Telugu streaming platform Aha, the makers revealed on social media when releasing a glimpse of the film.
Speaking to Silverscreen India about his upcoming film, Sadineni, who previously helmed the web series, Commit Mental, for the same platform, says, “Senapathy revolves around multiple characters and Rajendra Prasad plays one of the leads. It is a completely fictional story loosely inspired by the Tamil film 8 Thottakkal, which, in turn, is based on Akira Kurosawa’s Stray Dog. This film will have more of Stray Dog flavour than 8 Thottakkal.”
The filmmaker adds that the production house bankrolling the project, Sushmita Konidela’s Gold Box Entertainments, has acquired the rights of 8 Thottakkal. “I have seen the Tamil version, and wanted to rectify certain things in the storyline. So we [the writing team] have changed a lot of details of the story. We took the basic premise and adapted it to portray Hyderabadi culture and Telugu people.”
Apart from Rajendra Prasad, the cast comprises of actors Harsha Vardhan, Jeevan Reddy, Naresh Agastya, Pavani Reddy, and Satya Prakash in pivotal roles. The director says working with veteran actors meant he did not have to worry about performances and could concentrate on other aspects of filmmaking.
