Malayalam filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, whose film Sexy Durga recently won the Hivos Tiger Award at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam 2017, has revealed that he has received death threats. On his official Facebook account, Sanal wrote:
Ever since the release of the film, Sanal has become the target of death threats and vile abuse on social media. The filmmaker has been ‘ordered’ to apologise for ‘harming the sentiments’ of his film’s title.

Meanwhile, Sexy Durga was screened in the Havos Tiger Awards Competition section at 46th IFFR and won the presitigious award. The film has been lauded by critics all around, with even director Anurga Kashyap showing his interest in watching the film.

The film highlights the patriarchal society in Kerala, with actress Rajshri Deshpande playing Durga.
