Shah Rukh Khan will be given the Yash Chopra Memorial Award.

A jury comprising Yash Chopra’s wife Pamela, filmmaker Boney Kapoor, Simi Garewal, Padmini Kohlapuri, Subbarami Reddy, and Shashi Ranjan picked actor Shah Rukh Khan as the recipient of the fourth, National Yash Chopra Memorial Award.

Pamela said that SRK was chosen for the iconic status he enjoys in the country, and for the close relationship he shared with her late husband, legendary producer Yash Chopra.

“The award is given to those who are icons, who we know are legends like we gave to Lata Mangeshkar and Amitabh Bachchan. Last year, it was Rekha, who will be a legend tomorrow and same is the case with Shah Rukh. Also, Yash was very close to Shah Rukh and they both were extremely fond of each other,” Pamela said in a statement.

SRK’s humility also made him the best choice for the award, according to Pamela.

“Shah Rukh is not just one of the biggest stars of our film industry but also known globally. Despite the onslaught of action heroes and actors famous in other genres, Shah Rukh has maintained his position for the longest time. Off screen, he is a very humble person. He is humility personified and very hardworking,” she said.

Yash Chopra’s fondness for SRK is well-known. Most of the landmark films in SRK’s career have been with Yash Raj Films and with Yash Chopra himself. All of Chopra’s last films as a director starred Shah Rukh Khan.
