Speaking to PTI News, Shahid said, “If you are insecure as a person, then you will be insecure in any situation. If you are a secure person, and if you are sure about yourself, then nothing matters.”

The actor, who has teamed up with various lead actors in his other films, said that eventually, it’s about working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali as opposed to ‘worrying about rivalry between colleagues’. “I am very much sure about myself and my work. I will feel insecure only when I feel I will be lesser than somebody, but I don’t think I am lesser than anybody. I am not here to say I am better than anybody, but definitely I’m not lesser,” he added.

Shahid had earlier spoken against the term – ‘two-hero film’ – often mentioned in reference to Padmavati. “This is the stuff I’ve been reading in papers, and I find it absurd when they say it is a ‘two-hero film’. The film has three principal characters. These are just ways of creating some kind of material which is exciting at some frivolous level. It’s a great opportunity for all three of us. It’s a great role for Deepika, a fantastic role for Ranveer and great one for me. I am happy that the film has been cast the way it has and it is getting made,” he said in an interview with PTI News last year.

Shahid’s last film Rangoon saw him sharing equal screen space with the other lead actor Saif Ali Khan as well as the female lead Kangana Ranaut. The actor previously starred in Udta Punjab where the female lead, Alia Bhatt, had relatively more screen space than him. Diljit Dosanjh played the other male lead.

Padmavati will have Shahid Kapoor play the role of Rawal Ratan Singh, the husband of Rani Padmini, a legendary queen from the epic Padmavat. Deepika Padukone plays queen Padmavati, while Alauddin Khilji, her arch-rival, will be portrayed by Ranveer Singh.
