Actor Silambarasan and director Sundar C will team up for a new film, their first together. Lyca Productions will finance the project that will go on the floors soon.
According to a source close to the production house, the Simbu – Sundar C film will be a remake of the Telugu superhit Attarintiki Daredi. It is scheduled to release in January next year.
To reports that Silambarasan might also compose music for the film, the spokesperson said: “At present, we haven’t finalised the rest of the cast and crew. But we can confirm that Silambarasan is only acting in the film. He will not be composing.”
Sundar C’s proposed period magnum opus Sangamithra, which was supposed to have begun filming by now, will likely be postponed to make way for this project. The director is said to be working on the pre-production of the new project.
Asked if Sangamithra (which has been facing inordinate delays and cast changes since its launch last year) has been abandoned, the spokesperson said that it ‘was still in the works’. “This new film with Silambarasan will be a quick start-to-finish project. We expect to wrap it up by November this year so that it can release in January 2019.”

Attarintiki Daredi featured Pawan Kalyan as a man who tries to mend the relationship between his aunt and his family. Nadhiya played the aunt. In the Tamil remake, Khushbu Sundar will reprise the role.
It is believed that Samantha Akkineni, Rakul Preet Singh and Sayyeshaa are in the running to play the female lead. Interestingly, Samantha was the female lead in the Telugu original as well.
An official announcement regarding the title of the movie is expected soon.
At present, Silambarasan is busy with his Venkat Prabhu directorial, Maanadu. His film with Mani Ratnam, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, is due for release too.
