Actor Silambarasan TR has announced Maghaa Maanaadu days after he was dropped from Venkat Prabhu’s film Maanaadu because of repeated delays from the actor’s side.
Through his manager, Simbu announced the news to the press yesterday. His father, actor-director T Rajendar told Silverscreen, “We are planning the film on a huge scale with a Rs 120 crore budget.” When asked if it will be a political-thriller like Maanaadu, he said, “Wait for more announcements from Simbu, but it is an out-and-out entertainer like his previous films Manmadhan and Vallavan. It will release in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu.”
TR also clarified that STR will direct and act in the film, “Direction is by Silambarasan TR and not by me, as some have speculated. The film will be produced by our company Chimbu Cine Arts, and will be a big project for us.”
It was reported last week that Simbu was dropped from Maanaadu. The film’s producer Suresh Kamatchi said in a statement that he was tired of waiting for the project to start. “Simbu gave me the responsibility of producing the film with him and I thank him for that. But the film is facing delays and I don’t want things to get bitter with time. I believe in starting on schedule, with dedication to work. We took this decision since there was no sign of starting.” He added, “I could not give up the film. Simbu’s affection for us will continue and I thank all his fans for the love. Venkat Prabhu’s directorial Maanaadu produced by me will have a new beginning.”

The film, co-starring Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead, was set to start in February 2019 and release this summer, but was postponed. Reports also speculated that the film was shelved, but the makers clarified in March that Simbu was in the US to get in shape for the role. Due to unknown reasons, the project did not begin even after he returned from the US.
Simbu is currently shooting for Mufti, directed by Narthan, co-starring Gautham Karthik in the lead. He also has Maha with Hansika Motwani, directed by UR Jameel.
