Sometime back, Appukutty had made headlines was when Ajith photographed him to create his portfolio.  Appukutty, while working with the actor in Veeram, expressed his dismay over the kind of roles he was being offered in the Tamil industry. “All the roles I get are very similar to the roles I played in Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu. Even my looks are the same”, he had lamented.

Ajith advised him to reinvent his look and offered to do the photo shoot himself. The thrilled actor, donned a new look for the photo shoot. Ajith also encouraged him to use his birth name Sivabalan more often. Appukutty became the actor’s screen name after his role in Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu.
