Harshvardhan Kapoor’s recent comments about Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh being ineligible to win the Filmfare award for Best Debut Male has not gone down well with social media users, who questioned the one-film-old actor’s talent, among other insulting remarks. All this has hurt his sister Sonam Kapoor who doesn’t think he spoke “out of line”.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Sonam Kapoor said, “He’s not that kind of a person. Harsh is the sweetest, gentlest, kindest soul I’ve met. And to troll him just because he made a point about the debutant’s award, is just too unfair. He was speaking out of conviction. And according to me, he was not speaking out of line.”
Harshvardhan had earlier apologised to Diljit in case his remarks caused offence.

Sonam, who is best known for Neerja, pointed out that her own debut film Saawariya did not do too well at the box-office either. And she’s still proud of the film. She said, “Just because it didn’t do well, doesn’t mean all the hard work that has gone into it is nullified. Even my debut film, Saawariya, didn’t work at the box office. But I’m very proud of it. And I’m proud of what my brother did in Mirzya.” She said that, according to her, Harshvardhan did a terrific job in his debut film Mirzya.
She also said that Harsh was one of “Diljit Paaji’s” biggest fan and his objection was on technical grounds and nothing else. She said, “Our father (Anil Kapoor) has always taught us to be appreciative of other actors’ works. We’ve grown up in an atmosphere where we have constantly heard other actors’ work being appreciated. Neither my brother nor I would ever feel resentful of the good work done by our colleagues.”
