The first look poster of the film was released on social media last week.

While debutant Shijinlal has handled the direction, Grandma has a story and screenplay written by Shibi N. It is produced by Jayaraj R and Vinayaka Sunil Kumar.

Speaking to Silverscreen India, Shijinlal says, “The first half of the film belongs to the horror genre, while the second will be a thriller. I have known the writer for almost seven years and this project is something that we had been planning for a while. Actor Charmila plays the title role of the grandmother, and that character plays an important role in the horror portion. Sonia Aggarwal plays the lead, and both these characters travel together. It is a female-oriented script.”

Besides Charmila and Aggarwal, the cast comprises Vimala Raman, Pournami Raj, and Hemanth Menon in prominent roles. Menon plays the antagonist, while Vimala Raman is the second lead.

Though the director hails from Kerala and the film features Malayalam actors, Shijinlal confirms that Grandma is a straight Tamil film. He also reveals that there are plans to dub it in Telugu.

The project went on floors in May this year, but was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Filming was eventually resumed and wrapped up post September. The technical crew consists of Yeshwanth Balaji K as the cinematographer and Aswanth Raveendran as the editor.

Asked if Grandma will head to the big screen or an OTT platform, the filmmaker reveals that the team is looking for a theatrical release.

Meanwhile, Aggarwal is also set to appear in a couple of other upcoming Tamil films, namely Ward 126 and the Prabhu Deva-starrer Bagheera.
