Producers across the country heaved a sigh of relief as Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey, on Saturday, announced the reopening of theatres in the state on October 22 after a long hiatus due to Covid-19.

Within hours of the announcement, filmmaker Rohit Shetty became the first to reveal the release date of his much-awaited cop action-drama Sooryavanshi. The Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer will open worldwide on Diwali, which falls on November 4.

Sooryavanshi’s release will be followed by that of Bunty Aur Babli 2. Starring Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Sharvari, this sequel is slated to hit theatres on November 19.

Next up will be John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate 2, which will release on November 26.

Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, an official remake of the 1994 Tom Hanks-starrer Forrest Gump, was earlier scheduled for a Christmas 2021 release. However, the Advait Chandan-directed movie has now been pushed to February 14, 2022.

The open spot on Christmas this year will be taken up by Ranveer Singh’s much-awaited film 83. Directed by Kabir Khan, the film chronicles the Indian men’s cricket team’s first World Cup win under the captaincy of Kapil Dev in 1983. It will release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Apart from the two sports films, Tadap, the debut of Suniel Shetty’s son Ahan Shetty, is scheduled to release on December 3, and Ayushmann Khurrana‘s Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui will hit the screens on December 10.

The first half of 2022 has also been booked by several films. Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj has locked the January 21 release date. After Laal Singh Chaddha, Ranveer Singh’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar is lined up for February 25.

March will bring Kumar’s much-awaited Bachchan Pandey, which is slated to release on March 4. Following that will be Ranbir Kapoor’s comeback film Shamshera, which will hit screens on March 18. Kartik Aaryan’s film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 will arrive after that on March 25.

The next couple of months in 2022 will see the release of KGF Chapter 2 on April 14, Ajay Devgn’s Mayday on April 29, and Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti 2 on May 6.

The latter half of the year will see the release of Raksha Bandhan, Akshay Kumar’s film with Bhumi Pednekar. The Aanand L Rai directorial is slated to arrive on August 11, 2022.
