Sourav Ganguly Announces Biopic, To Be Produced by Luv Ranjan & Ankur Garg

Sourav Ganguly, former captain of the Indian cricket team and current president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has announced that his biopic will be produced by Luv Films, the production house founded by filmmakers Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg.

“Cricket has been my life, it gave confidence and ability to walk forward with my head held high, a journey to be cherished. Thrilled that Luv Films will produce a biopic on my journey and bring it to life for the big screen,” Ganguly tweeted on Thursday.

Luv Films also shared the announcement on social media.

According to reports, actor Ranbir Kapoor is being considered to play Ganguly in the biopic. Other details including who will be directing the biopic and the rest of the crew is yet to be announced.

Fondly called ‘Dada’, Ganguly is one of the most successful skippers in the history of Indian cricket and is known for his national as well as international record-breaking scores. He has played 113 Tests and 311 ODIs for India from 1992 to 2008, and has scored 7,212 runs in Test cricket and 11,363 runs in the 50-over games at an average of 42.17 and 41.02, respectively.

He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2004, for his distinguished and exceptional achievement in the field of Sports. In 2019, he was appointed the president of the BCCI.

Before Ganguly’s biopic, the Hindi film industry has seen several other biopics of sports legends including MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, the MS Dhoni biopic starring late Sushant Singh Rajput in the titular role, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, the Milkha Singh biopic starring Farhan Akhtar, Mary Kom, starring Priyanka Chopra, Azhar, the Mohammad Azharuddin biopic starring Emraan Hashmi and most recently Saina, the Saina Nehwal biopic starring Parineeti Chopra. Ranveer Singh is playing Kapil Dev in an upcoming biopic titled 83.

Luv Films has previously produced films such as Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, De De Pyaar De, Malang and Chhalaang. The production house also has a few upcoming projects including Luv Ranjan’s directorial starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, Kuttey starring Arjun Kapoor, Tabu among others and Ufff starring Nushrratt Bharuccha and Nora Fatehi.
