After the lull at the cinemas due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the box office is finally blowing up and audiences are packing up the theatres to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home. The Tom Holland-starrer which released on Thursday managed to earn a whopping Rs 33 crore (nett) on its first day, Box Office India reported.
According to the report, the multiplexes around the country are seeing houseful shows and it has managed to overtake collections of some of the biggest releases in the last few months. The Hollywood film has beaten the total amount collected by Akshay Kumar-starrer Sooryavanshi in West Bengal and East Punjab. The film is the second biggest Hollywood release of all time in the country after Avengers: Endgame. Across India, No Way Home has clocked in the third-best opening post-pandemic after Vakeel Saab (Telugu) and Master (Tamil).
The film is, however, set to face some competition with the release of Allu Arjun‘s much-awaited Pushpa.
Anupam Reddy, an executive committee member of the Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce and owner of Sudha Multiplex in Hyderabad, told Silverscreen India that while Spider-Man performed really well on Thursday, the release of Pushpa has led to theatres reducing screens for the Hollywood film. “Multiplexes are seeing incredible amounts of people booking tickets for Spider-Man. Every theatre is almost full. But from Friday, the shows have reduced due to the release of the regional film Pushpa. More shows have been allotted to the Allu Arjun film than for the Hollywood one. We are yet to see how the release of Ranveer Singh‘s ’83 will affect the Holland-starrer.”
He further stated that Singh’s world cup film might also fall short of screens if Pushpa keeps attracting audience till the second week.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: No Way Home sees Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon reprise their roles as Peter Parker, Michelle Jones or MJ, and Ned Leeds, respectively. Benedict Cumberbatch, who essays Doctor Strange in the MCU, is part of the cast as well. He took over the role of Parker’s mentor, previously occupied by Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and then by Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
No Way Home follows Peter Parker alias Spider-Man as he fights multiple villains from earlier Spider-Man films, who return after Doctor Strange unleashes the multiverse to help Parker. Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Electro, Lizard, and Sandman, the various villains in the series are back in this edition.
