‘Super Deluxe’ Trailer Review: Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s Second Coming Is A Story About An Impossible Situation

Super Deluxe is a movie starring Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Samantha Akkineni, Ramya Krishnan, Mysskin, Bucks and others, directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja of Aaranjya Kaandam fame. Fans of the cult 2011 hit have been waiting for the second coming of Kumararaja for a while now, and YNot picking up the movie was welcomed throughout the film community. The trailer was released today amid high expectations.

And it is a doozy.

The entire trailer is cut in cadence with the voice over by Viay Sethupathi – a fable about being stuck in an impossible situation. The opening shots hang around enough to introduce us to the main characters, and as Sethupathi’s story-telling gathers steam, the cuts gets frenzied, while the characters start losing it on screen.

There are oddities strewn through the trailer – Sethupathi is seen in a green sari, which later we see Ramya Krishnan wearing, and a creepy little boy who is the only one smiling at all in this trailer.

Yuvan Shankar Raja does not get in the way of the voice-over and complements the mood with a subdued BGM for the most part. Another complement to the setting – the blue and green hues that Nirav Shah and P.Vinod revel in, while establishing tight shots of the frenzy unfolding on screen.

This is an effective trailer – well worthy of the hype surrounding Kumararaja’s return to film-making.

The film releases on March 29.
