Suriya Announces 3.5 Crores For COVID-19 Frontline Workers, Media, And Theatre Representatives

On August 22, actor Suriya announced that his upcoming biggie Soorarai Pottru helmed by Sudha Kongara Prasad of Irudhi Suttru fame will premiere on the OTT, Amazon Prime Video, directly skipping a theatrical release. Along with it, he also announced that he would be donating a sum of Rs. 5 crores from the amount generated through the film’s release to the needy, be it common people, cine workers, or healthcare workers.

After handing over a sum of Rs. 1.5 crores to various cine associations last Friday, on August 28, Suriya has announced a sum of Rs. 3.5 crores for the media, theatre associations, healthcare workers, and police officers on Monday. The actor had penned a letter on the same and said that it was to help those children and students who have faced hindrances with respect to education owing to the pandemic.

He announced that out of the proposed Rs. 3.5 crores, he would be giving the doctors, nurses, healthcare staff, frontliners comprising police, press and media, sanitation workers, and cemetery workers a sum of Rs. 2.5 crores to help the children pursuing school or college in their families. The balance amount of Rs. 1 crore has been announced for the Public Relations Officers (PROs), mediators, representatives, theatre employees, and distributors of the film industry along with those working under his Agaram foundation.

Additionally, the actor announced that his Agaram foundation is willing to help those students who hail from families with extreme financial need. He would fund a maximum sum of ten thousand rupees to one student from the family based on the evidence submitted through a designated application form. The amount will be sent directly to the educational institution where the students are studying.

The families can download the application from the official Agaram website and fill in the necessary details while attaching the required documents. Once completed, it must be sent through post to the foundation. The selection for the grant will be done following the rules and regulations stated in the application form.

The actor said that his tiny contribution in this time of dire need is a way of expressing his love. He also asked everyone to stand by those students who aren’t able to pursue their studies in this economical crisis.

Bankrolled by Suriya and Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian under their 2D Entertainment banner with Bollywood producer Guneet Monga and Aalif Surti co-producing it under their Sikhya Entertainment banner, Soorarai Pottru is one of the most anticipated films of the year.

It is reportedly a biopic on the life of Capt (Retd) GR Gopinath, who founded Air Deccan and introduced the concept of budget airlines in the country. It will star Sarvam Thaala Mayam fame Aparna Balamurali opposite Suriya. Apart from the lead, actors Mohan BabuParesh RawalUrvashiKarunasVivek Prasanna, Krishna Kumar, and Kaali Venkat are also playing significant roles. Mohan Babu is making his Tamil film comeback after 40 years.

While GV Prakash is composing music, the cinematography is by Niketh Bommireddy, production design by Jacki, editing by Satish Surya, and costumes by Poornima Ramaswamy. Hollywood stunt choreographer Greg Powell, who has worked on films like SkyfallFast And Furious, and Bourne Ultimatum, is choreographing the action sequences along with VickyShobi and Sekhar VJ are choreographing the dance.
