The panel was recently tasked with studying and submitting their expert findings on the death of the late actor, upon request from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). On June 14, 34-year-old Rajput was found dead at his Bandra home.

Dr. Sudhir Gupta, who led the AIIMS panel re-evaluating Rajput’s post-mortem and viscera reports told ANI: “There were no injuries on the body, other than of hanging. There were no marks of struggle/scuffle on the body and clothes of the deceased.”

Gupta, on Saturday, told India Today: “Sushant death is a case of suicide. Murder completely ruled out.”

Although the Mumbai Police and initial autopsy reports from a Mumbai hospital had called it a suicide, wild stories and theories were spun on social media. The CBI and subsequently the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) was roped in as part of investigations into Rajput’s death and an alleged ‘drug syndicate’ in Bollywood, which the NCB has alleged actor Rhea Chakraborty to be a part of.

On September 8, Chakraborty was sentenced to a 14-day judicial custody after being questioned and subsequently arrested by the NCB in an alleged drugs probe launched as part of the investigation into the late actor’s death. Her judicial custody was recently extended till October 6.

Her brother Showik Chakraborty and Rajput’s house manager Samuel Miranda were arrested on September 4 while Rajput’s staff Dipesh Sawant was arrested on September 5. NCB has also questioned actors Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan and Rakul Preet Singh regarding the drug connections.

Last week, Rajput’s family’s lawyer Vikas Singh wrote on social media: “Getting frustrated by the delay in CBI taking a decision to convert abetment to suicide to Murder of SSR. The Doctor who is part of the AIIMS team had told me long back that the photos sent by me indicated 200% that it’s death by strangulation and not suicide.”

The CBI has been continually maintaining that “all aspects” related to the case are being looked into. According to some reports, the CBI is likely to continue its investigation in the original charge-abetment to suicide- that was listed by Bihar Police.
