Actor T Rajendar has filed a nomination to run for the president post in the upcoming Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) elections on Tuesday, according to reports.
Earlier, the actor had announced that he will be contesting for the TFPC elections, which is to take place on November 22. Rajendar is currently the president of the Chennai Chengalpet Kanchipuram Thiruvallur Tamil Film Distributors Association.
A few months back, it was reported that producer T Siva had expressed interest in contesting in the elections. He had announced that PL Thenappan, RK Suresh , JSK Sathish, Dhananjayan Govind and Muraleedharan will be part of his team.
Earlier this month, Election Commissioner M Jayachandran, who was appointed by the Madras High Court, announced that the elections will be held on November 22 from 8 am to 4 pm at MGR Janaki College at Adyar in Chennai.
Meanwhile, the current office is being held by actor Vishal. The actor was asked to resign by the opposition team which included T Siva, Sathya Jyoti Thyagarajan, AL Azhagappan and others, due to alleged misappropriation of funds. The producers had attempted to lock and seal the TFPC office in order to prevent Vishal from entering. However, when Vishal tried to break in, he was arrested. The government later appointed a special officer to administer the council.
N Sekar, district registrar (admin) of Central Chennai, was appointed the special officer to manage the council’s functions for a year.
The TFPC elections were originally slated to be held on June 21. Murali Rama Narayanan of Thenandal Films who represented one of the factions had contested for the presidential post. Producers Michael Rayappan and Subash Chandra Bose were to contest for the post of vice president. While Radhakrishnan stood for the post of secretary, KJ Rajesh ran for the post of treasurer. However, the election never took place.
