24 Hour Video Surveillance and Six Other TFPC Rules To Battle Piracy

Vishal Promotes Sandakozhi 2

The Tamil Film Producers’ Council has drawn up a list of 7 must-follow rules to battle film piracy. This includes 24 hour video surveillance with CCTV cameras in all theatres.

These 7 rules were decided on in a meeting between the TFPC and the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association on Tuesday. An official statement released by the Producer’s council says that these steps are to be implemented in all theaters across Tamil Nadu from November.

The new rules state that every theater must have CCTV cameras inside and outside the theaters, in the entrance and in the parking lots before November 6. The cameras should record footage 24 hours without any interruption. Films will not be distributed to theaters that do not have CCTV cameras by November 15.

Additionally, theatres must deploy staff inside all screens to monitor the audience throughout all shows. Theatres must also play a warning video before each screening. This video will need to mention that legal action will be taken against all those who illegally videograph or copy films being screened.

Further, manual checking of all audience members to ensure they do not carry cameras, has been made mandatory. Finally a joint committee of the Producers’ Council and Theater Owner Association members will be implemented, where the theater authorities can discuss any issue regarding the rules and regulations.

These rules, and guidelines for strict implementation, have been put in place after Vishal’s Sandakozhi 2 and Dhanush’s Vada Chennai were leaked online a day after release.  Tamil Film Producers Council’s (TFPC) anti-piracy cell also suspended a list of domains for pirating films.

Earlier, Aditi Balan’s Aruvi had to battle piracy after the film was leaked on the internet only a day after its release. Samantha’s U Turn, Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kaala and Sivakarthikeyan’s Seema Raja were leaked online as well.
