The song ‘Manika Malaraya Poove‘ from the Malayalam film Oru Adaar Love has gone viral and has turned 18-year-old actress Priya Prakash Varrier into an internet sensation. But this song is not a new creation, it comes with a bit of history.
The song is written by PMA Jabbar, who has been writing Mappilapattu from the age of 16. In an interview to Malayalam daily Madhyamam, the lyricist confirms that he has written more than 500 Mappilapattu songs but his most popular work his Manika Malayara Poovi. He recently wrote 12 Mappilapattu songs and released it as an album.
In the film directed by Omar Lulu, the music is composed by Shaan Rahman of ‘Jimmiki Kammal’ fame and sung by Vineeth Sreenivasan.
The video shows a boy (Mohammad Roshan) looking at a girl (Priya P Varrier) seated far away. They lock eyes and start communicating with their eyebrows. While the boy has his eyebrow game strong, the girl winks, and he loses the game but not before he falls head over heels for her.
This part from the video is now the subject of several memes and parody videos on the internet.
