‘Thiruttu Payale 2 Would Have Been A Success If It Had Starred A Mass Hero’: Amala Paul

Amala Paul At The Ratsasan Success Meet

Amala Paul feels that Thiruttu Payale 2, in which she starred along with actors Bobby Simha and Prasanna, would’ve worked at the box office if it had had a bigger star. Speaking to Ananda Vikatan, she said:

“Tamil film industry sets aside big budgets only for commercial movies. Bollywood industry is straightforward. In comparison, the Tamil film industry seems fake. They keep making the same films. Times have changed but our industry has not kept up with the times. We need to support good cinema. But they still only support mass movies. In that sense, if another hero had done Thiruttu Payale 2, then this film would’ve been a success. It did not have commercial elements. But if it had that, it would have been celebrated more.”

Speaking about sexual harassment in the industry, Amala Paul said that she thinks it is not that prevalent in cinema. “When I was a beginner here, I did face it. But I was strong enough to say ‘No’. This is a personal issue and nobody here is going to force you to do things against your will. Filmmakers who want to make good cinema will never ask for such things. If they insist on it, then I will never be a part of such projects. This issue is not only restricted to the film world; it’s even worse in other fields. But we haven’t really seen anybody speaking out in those fields, so it looks like the film world is worse.”

The actor, whose first look poster for Aadai created quite a flutter on social media, said:

“When the first look of Aadai released, there were some people who said bad things about it. I believe that it depends upon how an individual perceives things. But negative issues like these never bother me. I know how to keep myself positive.”

Raatchasan, in which Paul starred alongside Vishnu Vishal, opened to good reviews a couple of weeks ago. Apart from Aadai, the actor is also filming Adho Andha Paravai Pola, directed by debutant Vinoth KR.
