Yaman:

Also in theatres this week is the Vijay Antony starrer, Yeman. The trailers look promising, and the music-composer-turned-actor’s new look has generated a buzz among fans and critics alike.

He will be playing dual roles in the movie, and Miya George is the female lead.

Veteran actors Sangili Murugan and Thiagarajan will be seen in important roles in this “political thriller.”

In an interview with 123 Telugu, Vijay Antony said that Yeman‘s story has been in the pipeline for close to five years. While rumours were rife that the movie showcases the current political situation in Tamil Nadu, Vijay shot it down saying, “The story is five years old and dates back to that time zone. None of the issues in Tamil Nadu are showcased in the film. It is fictional, and is in the commercial zone.”

Yeman has been directed by Jeeva Sankar. Vijay Antony has scored music.

Kanavu Variyam:

Director Arun Chidambaram’s Kanavu Variyam is said to be a movie with a simple story that will “inspire a dream in all of us”. Starring Arun Chidambaram himself in the lead, it is about electricity deficit in Tamil Nadu villages.

The movie has already garnered worldwide attention, having premiered at the 49th World Fest Houston International Film Festival. Kanavu Variyam was also awarded two Remis at the event. In a conversation with Silverscreen, the young director said that he penned the script while pursuing a corporate career in the USA.

“My entry into movies is a pleasant surprise as I did not expect acting to happen, least of all, film-making.”

Kanavu Variyam will also star Jiya Shankar, Illavarasu and Senthil Kumar.

Veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja, at the launch of the film’s trailer and songs, lauded the director: “These days, youngsters reproduce Hollywood films in Tamil. But, Arun Chidambaram (the director-actor), despite having studied and lived in the US, has come up with a film for the Tamil audience.”

The movie has been produced by Karthik Chidambaram, Arun’s brother, and is distributed by Warner Bros.

Rangoon:

This much-awaited Vishal Bharadwaj movie will see Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. Set in the pre-independence era, the movie has been shot extensively in Arunachal Pradesh, and near the Indo-China border. Rangoon has been generating a lot of interest as the movie is a love triangle between the main leads, and will see Kangana essaying the role of a Bollywood stunt-woman from the 40s.

Latest reports suggest that Kangana’s role is eerily similar to that of Fearless Nadia, and Wadia Movietone Pvt. Ltd has accused the makers of Rangoon of copyright infringement.

Rangoon has been produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Vishal Bharadwaj and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. Pankaj Kumar has cranked the camera, and Vishal has composed music.
