Actor Unni Mukundan joined the ever-growing list of actors turning singers with Sethu’s Oru Kuttanadan Blog. The movie featuring Mammootty and Raai Laxmi is gearing up for release this Onam.
Unni Mukundan, through an Instagram post, said that he was glad to be associated with the project. He was offered a role in the movie which he couldn’t take it up because of his prior commitments. Mukundan had previously worked with Sethu on movies like Mallu Singh and I Love Me which were scripted by the director.
He felt he made up for not being able to star in the movie by lending his voice to the song. He was eager to see his name in the title card under the list of playback singers.
Of late Malayalam cinema has been increasingly witnessing actors turning singers. Mammootty had recorded a song for Uncle which released earlier this year.
Barring Nivin Pauly and Fahadh Faasil, most of the younger crop of actors have given singing a try.

Jayasurya, who apart from singing for his own films, has begun lending his voice to songs from other films, including the Prithviraj-starrer Pavada which came out in 2016. Along with Prithviraj and Indrajith, who are both singers as well, Jayasurya sang in Amar Akbar Anthony, a movie that featured all three.
Following Jayasurya’s footsteps is Dulquer Salmaan who doesn’t restrict himself to singing for his movies alone. Recently, he sang the ‘Dhrithangapulagithan’ for the movie Kalyanam that had Shravan Mukesh in the lead.
Pranav Mohanlal, the latest star kid to enter Malayalam cinema, made his singing debut with ‘Gypsy Woman’ for his first movie Aadhi.
However, actors turning singers is not necessarily a new phenomenon in Malayalam cinema. Mohanlal has sung in many of his movies and other ones like Kannezhuthi Pottumthottu. Actors like Manoj. K. Jayan and Kalabhavan Mani have sung for movies in the past too.
