In what has already been termed as his year, Vicky Kaushal makes his presence felt yet again, this time through the teaser of Uri. Based on the surgical strikes conducted by the Indian Army in 2016, the movie has been directed by Adithya Dhar and produced by Ronnie Screwvala.
Starting off by setting up the adequate framework in the form of the background details regarding the attack, the teaser shows a widow and her child performing the last rites to her slain husband, serving as a catalyst for Kaushal who is a part of the guard of honour.
The teaser then moves to action mode, fast cutting between explosions and covert operations, before coming to an end with a shot of Kaushal walking away from an explosion.
The story has been inspired by true events of the surgical strikes conducted by the Indian Army in the aftermath of the September 18 terrorist attack on an army brigade headquarters in Uri in 2016. The terrorist attack – labelled “the deadliest attack on the security forces in Kashmir in two decades” happened in the early morning and claimed the lives of 19 soldiers.

Kaushal has already had a phenomenal year with two Netflix releases namely Love Per Square Foot and Lust Stories and three commercial ones in the form of Raazi, Sanju and Manmarziyaan. The movies, as well as his performances in them, were well received.
His role in Sanju as Kamli, a Gujarati based in the US who eventually goes on to become Sanjay Dutt’s closest friend was widely appreciated. So was his portrayal of ‘DJ Sandzz’ in Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan. He has also been signed on to star in Karan Johar’s new film Takht.
Besides Kaushal, Uri also stars Yami Gautam and Paresh Rawal who don’t feature in the teaser though. The movie releases on January 11.
