Uriyadi 2, the sequel to director Vijay Kumar’s successful 2016 film, is gearing up for release. The sequel has been produced by Suriya under his banner 2D Entertainment.
“After initially narrating the first version to producer Rajshekar of 2D, I was given an opportunity to meet Suriya sir,” Vijay Kumar was quoted as saying, in a Deccan Chronicle report.
“I narrated an enhanced version of the script to him, which he instantly liked and asked me a few queries. Impressed he said, ‘Let’s work together’. It was a big relief for me as I had a terrible time releasing the first part. More than monetary losses, I was hurt in many ways. Now, with the association of a big banner, I can be secure,” he added.
A spokesperson for 2D Entertainment had earlier said, “We are always on the lookout for films that promote awareness, and Uriyadi 2 is a film that ticks all the boxes. We are excited to team up with a young and energetic filmmaker like Vijay Kumar for the project.”
Uriyadi, a political thriller, was released to critical acclaim. The sequel, however, will not take off from where the original concluded. “I am touching upon caste discrimination and how politicians use caste for their own gains and have attempted to give a solution to these issues.”
