The Uttarakhand High Court has stayed the arrest of veteran Bollywood director-producer Rakesh Roshan, against whom an FIR had been filed for an alleged copyright violation.
A Dehradun-based writer Roop Narain Sonkar had accused Rakesh Roshan for plagiarising the script of Krrish 3 from one of his original works, titled Suardaan. The producer dismissed Sonkar’s claims, calling them “baseless”. Although Roshan appealed the court to quash the FIR, his plea was rejected. The High Court, on Thursday, stayed Rakesh Roshan’s arrest till the next hearing for the case, which is scheduled for September 19.
On May 21, Roop Narain Sonkar filed a police complaint alleging infringement of copyright against the director. The writer claimed that a few parts of the movie, including some characters, were lifted from his book. The director contended his claims, saying that the screenplay was a creation of his, with the help of his aide, and in no way it resembled the book.
This is not the first time the movie has landed itself in a legal soup. Earlier in 2013, prior to the release of the movie, Uday Singh Rajput from Madhya Pradesh had claimed that he had written the script for the movie and demanded two crores as remuneration. The High Court however dismissed his claims calling them “dishonest”.

Meanwhile, Rakesh Roshan’s upcoming production, Kaabil has also run into similar problems. Singer/actor Sudhanshu Pandey has accused the director of the film, Sanjay Gupta, of plagiarizing the script of the film. The director dismissed his claims saying that he was ready to fight the case legally. Kaabil is a drama-thriller which has Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautham in the lead roles. The movie will be produced under Rakesh Roshan’s Filmkraft Production.
Krrish-3 is a 2013 superhero science fiction film directed and produced by Rakesh Roshan. The film starred Hrithik Roshan, Vivek Oberai, Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut in the lead roles. The movie went on to become one of the highest grossing films of the year.
