Vada Chennai To Be A Two-Part Film

Director Vetrimaaran’s next flick – Vada Chennai, starring Dhanush and Samantha in the lead roles, will be a two-part film. The film, as the title suggests, will revolve around the life in North Chennai, and will be a dark film, said the director.

Deccan Chronicle has quoted Vetrimaaran as saying, “The movie spans three decades and has minute details and descriptions which cannot be told in one part”. He added that it was Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap who convinced him to make Vada Chennai  in two parts.

Normally, sequels to films are planned only by gauging the success of the first instalment. But films like Vishwaroopam and Baahubali have begun the trend of franchise films in Indian Cinema, where the plot of the film remains the same and the first instalment finishes with a cliffhanger, making the audience curious about the second part.

Shooting of Vada Chennai is expected to begin in October. Vetrimaaran’s Visaranai, starring Attakathi Dinesh, is awaiting release and the film has already won critical acclaim and has been selected to be screened at the Venice International Film Festival.
